..........
After more than 34 days to dealing with cold-like symptoms and the possible diagnosis of bronchitis, we finally had a CT scan done at City of Hope Tuesday that reveals the real culprit for my long respiratory siege: pneumonia.
My doctor admitted me again Tuesday and today the performed a bronchoscopy, removing a considerable about of mucous and taking fluid samples to culture. They also did a second CT of the sinus areas to see what that might reveal. The hacking cough has greatly subsided throughout the day and I am expecting finally to get some needed rest this evening. The new IV antibiotics seem to be beneficial. Other good news as provided by my blood tests this week with my white cell count at its highest level (back to normal ranges) since the cancer diagnosis two years ago. However, as my doctors said, "there may be reason to suspect now the "quality and potency" of these cells, not the quantity.
Once again, we are so thankful for the care and attention of our caregivers at City of Hope. We know how fortunate we are to have this world-renown cancer center in our vicinity. I maybe a cancer survivor, but I will always be a cancer patient and when other health complications develop, it is reassuring to know my care is in their hands.
We will probably remain in the hospital through the weekend.
