Incredible!

You can never conquer a mountain. Mountains can't be conquered; you conquer yourself — your hopes, your fears. — Jim Whitaker

Dee Dee and I spent the entire day at City of Hope, as has been typical lately on Fridays. Although the day was long, it was elating.

The most positive moment of the day happened when one of the resident physicians, Dr. Lopez, walked in the room with the printed results of our PET scan from yesterday: "Negative!" No more cancer!

Soon after, our primary physician, Dr. Nakamura walked in (beaming from ear to ear) with the explanation: "Incredible!"

So, it was a day (number 44 post transplant) full of superlatives. An answer to prayer and confirmation of our hopes and faith. Needless to say, we also got confirmation of a reality we already knew: The stem cell transplant from our unrelated, 24-year-old overseas donor is a complete success. A DNA test confirms that I now have my donor's DNA and immune system, and this is reasoned to now sufficiently help my body defend against any possible return of the lymphoma.

What's it feel like to be the beneficiary of such a medical and human miracle? Dee Dee and I are both overcome with gratitude. While we had hope and faith that God's healing power would augment and enhance the best that medical science can do, we know that the power and the providence that has brought us to this day was not of our making. Our relative quick recover seems to have my doctors in wonderment (the word "incredible" is telling), but we know that with Him, "all things are possible." Matthew 19:26

Our routine and home isolation will continue until Nov. 30, but we expect that time to literally fly by as have the last 44 days. Again, your e-mails, cards, calls, and prayers are most coveted by Dee Dee and me. I hope all of you will now devote most of your prayer time in a spirit of thanksgiving. That's what we are doing.
