Personalized medicine is a medical model that separates patients into different groups-with medical decisions, practices, interventions and/or products being tailored to the individual patient based on their predicted response or risk of disease.

In 2001 the Human Genome Project succeeded in mapping the DNA of humans. This landmark accomplishment launched the field of genomics, the integrated study of all the genes in the human body and the related biomedical interventions that can be tailored to benefit a person's health.

Today genomics, part of a larger movement toward personalized medicine, is poised to revolutionize health care. By cross-referencing an individual's genetic sequence -- their genome -- against known elements of "Big Data," elements of genomics are already being incorporated on a widespread basis, including prenatal disease screening and targeted cancer treatments. With more innovations soon to arrive at the bedside, the promise of the genomics revolution is limitless.

This entry in the What Everyone Needs to Know series offers an authoritative resource on the prospects and realities of genomics and personalized medicine. As this science continues to alter traditional medical paradigms, consumers are faced with additional options and more complicated decisions regarding their health care. This book provides the essential information everyone needs.

WHAT every "canswerist"* needs to know about MCL

* CANSWERIST = a cancer survivor or caregiver for a cancer survivor

Mantle cell lymphoma is a type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, comprising about 6% of NHL cases. MCL is a subtype of B-cell lymphoma, due to CD5 positive antigen-naive pregerminal center B-cell within the mantle zone that surrounds normal germinal center follicles. MCL cells generally over-express cyclin D1 due to a t(11:14) chromosomal translocation in the DNA. Specifically, the translocation is at t11;14.

WHICH of the following statements is most accurate about mantle cell lymphoma (MCL)?

Three items regarding mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) research hit my inbox in the last few days and all indicate a certain amount of #providence on the horizon for finding a lasting cure for MCL, if not other forms of lymphoma and lymphatic cancers.  Read the links here:

My personal experience with MCL dates from circa April Fool's Day 2006, the approximate date when Dee Dee and I returned from a week-long trip to Florida to visit Brother Bob and family and to participate in my 40th high school class reunion.  Just prior to that trip, I discovered a lump the size of a golf ball under my right arm.  That growth would later in April become diagnosed as MCL and so the survival journey began.

Soon after the confirmed diagnosis for MCL, I became an official web blogger about this cancer survival journey and all things MCL, including this SOURCE of links and content.

One man's chronicle of his experience with cancer. Inside you'll find thought inspiring stories, Bible verses, poetry, soul searching, and hope. Be prepared to bookmark pages along the way to share with those around you. It's a journey, or is it a war? It's serious, but light hearted. It's the authors experience from hearing the diagnosis, to saying "O.k., what now?" It's the authors intent that through his personal experience you may find something helpful to you or someone around you.Your experience is unique, and your thoughts and feelings as well, but the author wants you to know, you're not alone. Loving Every Day is a testament of human spirit, created in hope that you too will find the strength within yourself, to be loving everyday.
