Canswerist ▶ Defined

#CANSWERISTS (aka cancer survivors or caregivers for same) have numerous social media locations to follow on Facebook and other popular sites.  Sometimes, I engage the contributors of posts with a comment about my own experience and what follows is an example of such an encounter.

My almost more than 5,000 followers on social media and blogs know very well that my major attraction to social media and microblogging had its origins with my 2006 DX with mantle cell lymphoma. This medium proved to be the best way to communicate my treatment progress during these last dozen years. For a native Floridian with family members residing coast-to-coast, blogs and social media are a godsend for communication.

Thanks to everyone who offered time to read and comment here. Truly, I don't know what the posts have done for you, but your presence has been helpful to me. Of course, the content reaches well beyond social media with more than 5,000 followers on a family of social media sites, the aggregation of which I call SocialCurrentSee.

Since 2004, Medgadget (MG) has been reporting on medical technology from around the world. MG covers the latest medical devices and approvals, technology breakthroughs and discoveries, conduct exclusive interviews with med tech leaders, and files reports from healthcare conferences. MG started about two years prior to my MCL DX, but I have just stumbled upon this resource. Might have been helpful to this #CANSWERIST more than 10 years ago?

Canswerist = A cancer survivor or those who are caregivers for same

Every year at this time (this year the date was Aug 22), Dee Dee and our entire family recall the time (now ten years ago) when I was an inpatient at City of Hope, Duarte, CA, for that now historic stem cell transplant from and unrelated German donor (allogeneic transplant).
At this time, not only is it hard to believe that we are more than seven years into our "retirement life," but my treatment is entirely routine, nothing more than periodic follow-up visits to City of Hope for IVIGs (immunoglobulin infusions) to boost the old immune system.  Other than this relatively routine treatment, my health is better and more "normal" than before the transplant. However, I have been recruited by COH to be part of a clinical study to assay the long-term cardiology effects of stem cell transplants on patients and that study is now underway with periodic testing and examinations at the City of Hope campus.  We have recently completed phase two of that survey.
Whatever we can do to give back to this marvelous treatment center for the gift of life we have been given, it was an honor to be given that opportunity.  And speaking of opportunities, please go to the link to see MyHope@COHthe newly-created page where you can join my friends and associates in supporting City of Hope.
