The origin of my CANswerist trip

Extended cancer survival journeys like mine (now 8 years in duration) are becoming the rule rather than the exception.  No doubt in my mind that my April 2006 DX with NHL MCL was an unfortunate event that happened at the right time and in the right place.

Some might consider any DX for the "BIG C" as a life-ending experience, but thanks to the marvelous caregivers and advanced research hospitals we have today (and a healthy dose of divine intervention), the rates of mortality and morbidity for cancer today have drastically declined.

I know this to be true because I am one of those cases, a beneficiary of circumstances, plans, and a new medicine that goes well beyond diagnosis and brings the cure. The rest of the story is explained by this and other posts on this blog.

Key:  DX = diagnosis, NHL = non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, MCL = mantle cell lymphoma
