Teen's Life Saved By Bone Marrow Transplant

Two matters: Dee Dee and I spent 9 hours at COH yesterday because I was up most of Friday night with coughing spells. The lingering, hacking cough I had experienced for several weeks was not getting better on its own or with over-the-counter medication. Friday night was the worst, so we resolved to call COH and they asked us to come in to the ETC. X-rays confirmed that there are signs still of the pneumonia that I thought I was over (it may have returned). We are home today and back on more, stronger antibiotics. Expecting to see some real improvement in a few days. One of the frequent questions I am asked: What is the difference between bone marrow and stem cell transplants? While two different procedures, bone marrow (BMT) and stem cell (SCT) transplants both save lives. Needless to say, my curiosity and advocacy for recruiting donors has become one of those very important matters. Here is a somewhat dated video clip on the topic and a BMT drive that took place in Minnesota....

50 Days Until My SCT Anniversary

50Days Originally uploaded by mfoxw92551 Seems that the milestone dates just keep coming. What a joy it is to share the good news that today we are just 50 days away from our first-year anniversary of the stem cell transplant (SCT) at City of Hope. Dee Dee and I visited Dr. Nakamura on Tuesday of this week when he found that our blood tests are positive and show progress with no return of the lymphoma. Another round of PET/CT scans is scheduled in the next two weeks, but those results should be "negative," too. Other than a lingering cough (probably bronchial-related), I am well and spending additional time in the office each week as I work toward full-time work status around the time of my anniversary, perhaps before. Other than my transplant anniversary date, our calendar this week is highlighted by the July 4 wedding anniversary that Dee Dee and I will celebrate. We will mark our 37th year together while also toasting a birthday for Andrea's husband, Johan.

Flashback: Country Roads by John Denver

You can't say much about the video quality of this clip, but here is one of my all-time favorite recording artists with a major hit that I still enjoy. For all of you baby boomers out there, here is one for you as well. ........... .......... @lta LINK to This SOURCE .......... @lta SEARCH This TOPIC .......... ALTACITIES ..........
